I agree. Both the AJ and DR rosewood models have great balance and better bass and resonance than the mahogany ones. The AJ mahogany model is pretty close thanks to the AJ shape, but it just doesn't sound to me like it has the same crispness and projection as the rosewood models. The DR500R line is a close second to the AJ500R - a little less bass but still great balance and crisp tone throughout the range.

The Elan 4TN I believe a single source, only has a Piezo under the bridge.

I think the same exact guitar, the pickup is stereo, one piezo in the bridge and one magnetic in the end of the neck

Is the same guitar. For recording I used a Blue Yeti mic. Its a USB condenser mic. I used the stereo setting which I like the best. connected directly to the laptop usb and recorded using CoolEdit Pro

Is the AJ (AJ-500 RE) The rosewood version, sounds more tight than the mahogany one imo.

Was it an Epi AJ-500 or DR-500? I'm betting from the pic and the sound it was the acoustic jumbo

Mine is the AJ-500RENS with the Elan 4TN. What pickup does yours have?
