Consistent weapons deployment is the key. Bipods are fine if deployed properly and zeroed with the exact same harmonic signature as you will employ in the field. Heartbeat is only really a problem if one tries to muscle weapon onto the target. All the details of the long range techniques that made this shot possible are expounded upon in full detail in my LONG RANGE 101 series. If you account for ALL the factors, you can get very very close to where you are aiming, if not exactly right on.

Confession...my Surgeon .338 has never killed anything - this is purely my target rifle. However, the .338 Lapua would be very well suited for any large game on the North American continent. Probably the perfect long range elk rifle. I harvested lots of game with many other rifles, but not his one :-/
