This game was the pinnacle and perfect microcosm of the Islander's season and theme of the season. Just an unbelievable way to lose but in a lot of ways you almost expected it to happen. Loss for words is an understatement. Thanks Gil, great analysis!

Up 3-0 in a playoff game and we still lose. Major embarrassment.
Gandaulf1961 (18 minutes ago)
Good on ya Gil. It was clearly obvious that you were finding it difficult to find the words to describe and explain what we witnessed.

The goal that tied the game by Aho is the same goal that Pittsburgh scored on us twice in last game of the reg season .Why leave the leading goal scorer open next to the net! Please learn from your mistakes .

The fact you struggled to put this in words just tells you all you needed to know how bad this loss was, Gil. You spoke for all of us. I know I was stunned watching how everything imploded for the Islanders in the third period. You said it well about the Islanders being conservative and playing not to lose. If you are registering only one shot in the third period, you are playing to lose and you are going to lose. If Kyle MacLean was the Islanders best player in that third period, this was not good in the sense your stars need to be your best players, not just Kyle.

ive never seen a team not be able clear their own zone like this team they get beat every loose puck and even when it looks like they have easy clear they find a way to not get puck out of zone its unreal!!!! i have tickets for thursday and im 50-50 if im going to attend the game. whats the point they not winning this series they will be lucky to win a game

The Islanders suffered two consecutive losses in frustrating fashion. Despite showing promise in both games, they fell short of victory due to defensive lapses and missed opportunities. However, with the next two games scheduled at home, there is renewed hope for success. The team is determined to bounce back and deliver strong performances in front of their supportive fans, aiming to turn the tide and secure much-needed wins. Go Islanders!

Gotta love the absolute classlessness and bush league identity of the Isles which shone through on those few extra whacks on Jake after he scored the empty netter.

The reason why Carolina has always given the Islanders fits is because in order to beat Carolina you need your defensemen to consistently make the outlet pass hitting your forwards with speed entering the neutral zone

This has to be one of the most painful Islander losses ever, and yet somehow, I think we all saw it coming. Easier said than done, but the team needs to put this behind them and concentrate on playing a whole lot better in game 3 if they want to make a series out of this.

This is what happens when a +500 team gets it going against a +28000 team. I have to give the players credit for giving it all they had and staying in that game during the furious onslaught the Canes threw at them for 2 periods. They were exhausted by the time the fights started.

Maybe give the net to Sorokin at this point and see if he can spark this shitshow of a team .. I’m mean this series should be tied but we lose in islanders ways

I'm a Canes fan, but I like listening to you speak because it's very JFK, very Transatlantic, like a voice from a different era.
