That's cool. I'm in Newfoundland and couldn't recall seeing one like that. Usually on small multi-task jobs we seem to use backhoe's. These machines generally handle bigger jobs. Road building, clearing land, bigger digging jobs backhoe's are to small for, and I've always seen them run on tracks. I imagine running wheels must be easier on the roads though. I don't drive personally, but at times I have seen tracked ones go on the road they certainly leave their mark on the pavement.

@JeepinDG For small jobs like ditch clearing we use back hoe loaders, same thing with grading/smoothing road sides. Escavators are used for building foundations for new roads, digging basements for homes, bigger jobs like that. Nothing they really need road wheels for. Them jobs are what the "all in one" of tractors are used for. XD.

Excavator with tires, that's rare. They all run on tracks up here, big and small. I can't recall seeing any with tires. Good that you got out though.

dont now about the states but here inn norway we use them alot. put a dumper trailer after it and you have a excavator, forklift, wheelloader, dumper, krane all inn one machine. with a skilled operator thats superb on road sites and building sites. and with the right operator you can go most places that the tracked oncen can. not all the places of course but most of them :) i drive one my self :)

@CowboyPenner I use a "Canon Digital IXUS 90IS" for most of all my shots. The quality tends to blend and get pixeled as I zoom, but else it is a great camera.

@BoTMSapper Ah I see. I live in Newfoundland, we use to have a railway a long, long time ago, but it shut down and was buried over, it's used as a ATV/walking trail now. The 75% ratio for tracks might be why I never seen a wheeled one, living back in the country could also be a factor to. They might have wheeled ones in city's like St. John's, but I haven't seen them while I visited.

Are they widely used in the back country's/small towns, or mainly city's? I don't doubt there are lots out there, I just don't recall actually ever seeing one I don't think. lol

@justinlynch3 There are heaps that are wheeled... tho its on a ratio of 25% Wheel and 75% Track... Also alot of railroads use them and are fittin with Hi-Rail wheels (rail wheels) and use the Rubber Wheels for power along the tracks... I know this as use one on the railway.
