I think the setting for Infamous 2 was a clever choice, because while Cole does die if he touches water, so too does his enemies. Almost every humanoid enemy dies in one or two shots if they're in water, in fact you don't even have to shoot them, just being near them whilst your both in water kills them. This to me allows for interesting game play, as finding the optimal position and picking your targets when they're vulnerable is fun, at the same time enemies such as the ice conduits are maneuverable, so you need to be quick on your feet to find targets in the water.

I like Infamous 2's morality choices narratively because it completely changes the ending, unlike in Infamous 1 or Second Son.

I understand you're take on how the series evolved, but you only criticized the combat and mission structure. I feel it's a little unjust to criticize the games without looking at the story, sidequests and sandbox elements.

Insomniac solved the 3rd person aiming problem back in 2002. The og Ratchet & Clank had the same issues with their wide fov camera, and aiming while positioning yourself. In Going Commando they improved the auto aim and added strafing which locked the camera in its current direction.

My favorite game gameplay-wise in the series was Infamous First Light. It felt like every combat ability fed into one another. Melee attacks, the dash ability, rapid fire shooting, sniping, bubble grenades, the floating status effect, weak points, controllable enemies, and power ups...they all felt interconnected during every combat encounter, especially inside the high score arcade mode. And to top it all off, the incredible particle effects made every neon blast feel perfectly juicy

Personally I love how infamous 1 looks. It’s art style is so Gridy and perfect for the tone of the game.
