At the club we use 91% alcohol and paper towels. You've beat me to doing a locomotive wheel cleaning vid to the fellow modelers in this hobby just gettin started. Awesome Stew.

I read about people cleaning their loco wheels like this, but was always too scared to do it in case it damaged the motor. Seeing this vid has eased my mind somewhat. :)

Get rid of the plastic wheels on your cars helps a bunch. Cleaner track means cleaner wheels on your units. I have converted all of our club cars to steel wheels and we rarely have to run track cleaner cars. Love your vids

Nice man. I do a similar thing with paper towels and 91% alchohol stuff. All works the same prettyy much though. Might try your method too!

@Grumpy7783 Thanks Coburn! I don't know what precentage alcohol I've got, I'll have to check. I love using this method, all the dirt goes on a cloth and NOT in the engine! Perfect!

@jmsschooner to clean my track, right now i'm using a fleischmann track cleaning block by hand to polish the rails. usually 2 or 3 passes on the track will be good enough. you can feel the dirt being removed as you rub the block back and forth. Peco Walthers and Roco also make track cleaning blocks. i hope this helps. thankz for watching! =]

@NaziJuice Hi NJ, this works well for the track although it can be a bit tedious if you have lots of track. 90% is fine. Thanks for watching! =)

You can use alcohol but not something I would recomend. Get some GooGone. Awsome stuff, fairly cheap and leaves a citris scent and it won't damage any special paint or melt the plastic on the underside of the trucks.

@guilford681 Thanks for watching bud! I reckon ANY method like this has gotta be good. It's especially good if you've put a lot of detail on the engine and don't want to damage any buy putting it in a cradle.

I have an Athearn Genesis SD45-2 that I clean wheels in this manner with no problems. They are a heavy loco I agree.

@schizzie345 You could try using a narrow strip of cloth, (maybe an inch wide), across the track that allows one set of drive wheels to pick up power while the other is being cleaned. Apologies for the delay in replying.
