I used the Sea Foam version. Instructions say about 1oz of SF per quart of oil. And run it in the engine for 100-300 miles before the oil change.

Ive never been one for engine flushes, but I tried one on a BMW with an M52 engine and a Euro Vauxhall with a 2.0 Ecotec and the results were good, oil stays cleaner for longer and particularly with the Ecotec there is less lifter noise and a quieter idle, for a couple extra £s its worth doing, but the oil must be fully drained and a little fresh stuff flushed through to make sure its all out, I change semi synth every 4k miles and it works well. Kerosene also cant be bought in handy 350ml bottles round here for those suggesting that either!

i put engine flush in a high mileage engine before and it loosened up the sludge so much it clogged up the screen of the oil pump and actually snapped the driving rod of the oil pump causing total loss of lubrication.

Oil is the life blood of an engine.I have seen people with new cars putting cheap oil in their engine.I change oil every 6 months and use castrol magnatec and a flushing agent.Never had problems even on high mileage engines.

I probably should but I do like to feel the oil. How it feels tells me a lot. Maybe I just would play in it so long, thanks for lookin' out for me!

I have a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan awd running at 200,000 miles already. Flushed it several times no problem. Use lucas oil.

I'd like to see you re-run this test on a fresh oil change. If you ran the flush on fresh oil and it drained out looking that black, I'd agree that it dissolved some stuff.

Back when synthetic started gaining interest many companies started sneaking the phrase "full synthetic" out front in big letters even if the product was conventional but the additive package used synthetic chemicals.

A large amount of oil sludge can prevent leaking from many of the seals (rear main seal, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, etc) however flushing periodically during your engine's life is a good habit to get into. It it begins leaking it's not because the flush made it leak-the flush has exposed the leak and lets you know it needs a seal/gasket replaced (it will just start leaking eventually and you may run the engine out of oil easier because its not a noticeable leak)
