This was honestly the worst time for Mojang to add this.

Surly as it a CHAT report system then you should get banned from the CHAT and the server owners should have the decision to ban someone and also I feel private servers should have the option to turn it off

I agree that this decision to 'ban' has either been made in haste, or has someone from MS implementing more restrictions on freedom of speech (same as Twitter, same as FB, same as other comment sections on MSM). Each server should have already had protections in place for their respective players. To do this globally, for the entire game, is simply a control grab. Glad you spoke up, many others have too!

Minecraft was given a second chance, now Mojang just blew that chance within hours.

Fortunately I am pretty sure there are going to be server plugins/mods to prevent this issue going forward.

I think banning from a realm isn't the smartest idea. Realms are typically hosted by friends, not a public server or anything.

Chat reporting was added because of Microsoft not Mojang.

When I was in primary school I knew that if I didn't want to see people swearing in chat, I could just turn off the chat. I don't see why mojang is adding profanity filters and banning people from multiplayer.

It's Microsoft who though of doing this, not Mojang.

To be honest this kind of system should be reserved for when the situation truly calls for it like actual threat to the Minecraft as we know it levels (I don't know wether or not people will agree with me on this tho) like for example people who find ways to destroy servers from the inside out and do it without reason (like for example the nocom exploit that plagued 2b2t) or any other exploit that makes people either unable or unwilling to even play the game. To summarize this full on game ban system should be used as a red zone truly last resort this person isn't stable type of system for those who are a real threat to the online aspect of the game
