Great to see his door open so quickly. I'm a huge Airshow and NASCAR fan and that was about as tame as a rollover as it gets. I know any crash at those speeds can be Fatal, but the Shockley's got lucky there that the truck didn't catch an edge and flip more then it did. This is why they build that thing like a Tank

I was there, and yes, one of the parachutes didn't open. That runway is 300 feet wide (It was the longer one at Westover Air Reserve Base), and for that thig to go that far over to the side was pretty remarkable. I will never forget the sense of relief the whole >100,000 people there at the time, after we found out the driver is unharmed. I remeber the C5 Galaxy that took off before this was circleing around the airport waiting for the runway to be cleared so it could land.

Somewhere to the left of me and higher up would have been a much better vantage point, but at least I had a fairly unobstructed view. Totally unexpected. When the truck started to turn, my thought was "can't be right--is it part of the act?" then when it flipped, "holy sh*t, that was NOT supposed to happen!!" and I just kept following so I could see what was happening with the aid of the zoom lens. The show was a blast overall, but this cast a dark pall on the whole day.

I always wondered if these trucks ever had a horrible accident. This answers my question. I went to see Shockwave at MIR, quite a long time ago. That run was just plain out awesome!!!! So much better at night, waaaaay better!!!!

No. You can see he gets out of the truck shortly after coming to a stop. Only very minor injuries, thanks to excellent roll cage inside the truck.

Wow that was some crash, glad he's OK. Damn and we just saw Shockwave at Maryland International Raceway last month during Jet Wars.

yup me too and being an EMT i was thinking oh boy what did he break. Glad he was alright though.

My best guess, he's supposed to have two chutes IIRC and only see one. There wasn't enough air to stop the truck and he stomped the brakes. He may not even have front brakes and when one or more tires locked physics took over. A sliding wheel will pass a rolling wheel at speed. I've seen this truck several time and sad to see it's demise but glad Kent was OK. Both the Motz and Shockwave have encountered disaster. Hoping for better days for both you guys.

Great now I won't see him at the Oceana Airshow. I'm glad though that Kent Shockley was not injured.

dude i was there i have been waiting for someone to post a vid of this crash cuz i was taking photos when it happened and all i got was smoke clouds and missed most of the crash thank god he was not hurt though he hopped right out after it happened
