I was talking to someone today about the concept, and we got into a little debate about "Sandbox GamePlay" the other person's point of view was that a game with no Goal gets boring, MY view after explanation was that it would be interesting to Chase down Speeders, Respond 911 Calls, and patrol the streets, investigate traffic accidents.

This version is a simplified version of the total idea of course, 10% of what I'd really want. Which would be you as a Cop in a small City Free-Roaming and able to Patrol with Police Powers, you'd have the ability to pull over suspect vehicles and let them go if they have nothing, or initiate an arrest.

example u arrive to a smashed store window call, and need to search the area for suspects, sometimes you'll get a description...

Yeah the reason GTA is like that is because it started life like that. if you played the very first GTA it was a 2D top down game, that focused on driving and crashing, and fleeing the cops. It stayed on that path, and the vehicle damage was always part of the formula of the game.

Yeah, it's a hard game to put together. Mainly due to the A.I. that would be required to make the game feel realistic and fun... It's been tried by a lot of people before, but the current trend is to either be a criminal, malcontent, or a one man army. It still hasn't caught on with the Cop Sim game idea yet... Unfortunately...

With say EA's unlimited resources this would bring back the excitment of actually going into the store to pick up a copy. I can tell you in trying to develop this on my own the hardest parts are the Backup Unit A.I. getting them to follow roads and navigate them on their own that is incredibly difficult, then the criminals behavior having them flee, or initiate a car chase and pick their route, whew it's frustratingly complicated stuff.

Yeah, i've played that one too. It was really close to the idea I've had. Unfortunately they worked so closely on the "Story" that the street patrol part was actually a sort of punishment rather than a fun part of the game. For some reason the detective part of the game is supposed to be the fun part... Go figure... I'd have more fun responding to random street crimes with other units involved than some lame story.

Yeah I've played all of those, except 4, i could not get into Police Quest 4, the only good part about that game in my opinon was the Police Manual which was basically the California Police Departments manual...

Yes! I would love to see a game like this. Pulling people over for speeding or running red lights and shit. Except, give it 3D graphics, lol.

Yeah, it would have to be an open ended game like far cry 2 or something where you can patrol where you want and respond to different calls (missions) and stuff like that. Until then im sticking to swat 4 with mods to make it better.
